Fly in Canada Fishing | Hearne Lake Lodge
Whitefish Coregonus Clupeaformis
Best time: August & September
Fall spawner
Average size 2 to 4 pounds.
You can catch whitefish all year, but we target them mainly the end of August and first week of September when they can be caught in the rivers and at both falls with light tackle, spinners and flies. They are a hard fighting fish for their size and have a soft mouth on small fly. They will usually drag you into your backing in the fast flowing water. You will see them taking flies off the top on calm evenings. In September they will be mixed in with the spawning Lakers and take your small minnow imitations used on the lake trout. They have a fast unmistakable, vibrating run to them. Also an excellent choice for shore lunch.
Tackle, ultra light and small spinners.
4/6 weight fly rod, small flies and nymphs
